Body Treatments Menu:

Snehana (Herbal Oil Application)

involves oleation of the body with warmed medicinal oils. This treatment helps to reduce excess dosha (humour), detoxify the tissues, and calm and balance mind and mood. It is an ancient therapy and the results bring more equilibrium to the body and mind. Snehana can last from 1- 2hrs. Good for: nervousness, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, de-stressing, relaxation and nourishment to the skin and deeper tissues, plus carrying toxins from deep in the tissues to the gut for elimination.

Shirobhyanga (Head, Neck and Arm Treatment)

is a deeply therapeutic, caring treatment designed to nourish the scalp, and wash away tensions associated with migraine, headache and neck stiffness. It involces warm dosha-specific oils poured into the hair, aiding the nourishment of the roots. While the herbs in the oil calm and revitalise the spirit, ancient massage techniques allow the body to surrender and enhance overall equilibrium.

Duration: 60 minutes (combined with face massage or leg massage).

Mukhabhyanga (Ayurvedic Face Massage)

works on the face, neck and head with firm pressure to marma (acupressure) points as remedial therapy to lift facial muscles leaving a youthful glow that is the result of regular treatments. Massage to facial marma points increase energy flow and is also benefical for problem lines. Good for: Physical and mental wellness, restoring Sattva (harmony) to the mind, anti-aging. Duration: 60 minutes (combined wtih head or leg massage). Cost: £75.00

Padabhyanga (Lower Leg and Foot Massage)

is a de-stressing and relaxing traditional Ayurvedic foot treatment which starts with firm massage of the lower leg, followed by manipulating marma (vital) points in the sole of the foot using deep pressure techniques. It enhances vitality, stimulates blood circulation, increases general overall well-being. Good for: nourishment to the body’s tissues, stress relief, increase energy flow, ease aches and pains. Duration: 60 minutes combined wtih face or head massage. £75.00

Shirodhara

uses warm medicinal oil which is gently poured in a continuous stream over certain pressure points across the forehead. Shirodhara is used to treat a variety of conditions but particularly neurological disorders, insomnia, memory loss, tinnitus, vertigo, anxiety and mental stress and certain types of skin diseases like psoriasis. It is a deeply calming and profound treatment, giving an experience similar to that obtained in deep meditation. It is thought to work by relaxing the hypothalamus in the brain and can normalise the functions of hormones that regulate sleep and emotions.

Pinda Svedana (Herbal Compress massage)

uses traditional herbal powders crushed in a traditional pestle and mortar and tied into a muslin cloth which forms the medium for this treatment, known in India as a bolus. After warming, oil is applied to the body using the bolus and an Ayurvedic technique known as pummelling. Through the stimulating moves, it removes sluggishness and achiness from the body and nourishes the tissues – skin, muscles, bones and joints. It is preceded by a snehana treatment and lasts for about 90 minutes. Good for: nourishing and strengthening the body tissues, removing congestion, aiding weak joints and easing sore muscles.

Nadi Svedana

is a unique heat application treatment used therapeutically in Ayurveda. It involves inducing sweating by passing steam over the body using a specially designed instrument. Steam is applied to the body via a tube attached to the instrument. It is preceded by snehana treatment. It helps to reduce body stiffness or stiffness in the joints, and expels waste products from the tissues. It softens the body and improve circulation of the blood. It is preceded by a snehana treatment and lasts for about 2 hours. Good for: Detoxification, cleansing of the deeper tissues, pain relief, and relief of lymph-related congestion, oedema, weight loss. Udvartana (Detox Scrub)

is a traditional Ayurveda body treatment which uses specific ground Ayurvedic herbs. The herbal powder is vigorously rubbed over the body to help draw out impurities and reduce water retention. It stimulates, detoxifies and the natural ingredients also exfoliate the body, leaving a lovely lustre to the skin surface. It is given after Snehana treatment and lasts about 2 hours. Good for: exfoliation, poor blood circulation, Kapha imbalance, weight loss, cellulite. Duration: 90 minutes

Basti Treatments

also follow Snehana treatment and involve the application of a well of warm medicinal oil to specific points on the body – namely, the lower back, upper back and/or mid part of the chest or heart centre. A container or well is made on the body using a dough made form Urud Dahl flour and the warm oil is poured in to fill the well. Good for: relieving pain and stiffness in the back, soothing the nerves and reducing/slowing degeneration and inflammation, bring a profound calm when applied to the heart centre. These treatments improve blood supply wherever they are applied. Duration: 90 minutes
